I started making refurbished helmets about 3 years ago. I have always loved the design of the German helmet although it has a certain negative association to it. I'm a designer and the German helmet just has a good design to it, which appeals to a lot of people.
I site behind a computer most of the day and working with helmets is a way for me to be creative with my hands. It takes a lot of work cleaning (and sometimes repairing) a helmet, painting it and after that making it look like its heavily used. It's that process, and the fact that I'm preserving a piece of history, that makes me like working with helmets.
Besides that, the design of the helmet is so good that the key features of it are still in use today.
